Key management systems

Surface Vault

One key or one key ring, behind a compact stainless steel vault on the wall. Your access control system or the Security Asset Manager releases it and sees whether the key is still in place.

Monitored remotely, available on the spot.

The vault has no software of its own. It hangs off the system you already run and reports two things to it: whether the cover is open, and whether the key is still in place. Release happens from behind the desk or automatically on an alarm.

Closed Surface Vault, the green LED showing it is locked
Remote release A relay output from your access control system, fire panel or the Security Asset Manager unlocks the door. An LED confirms it.
Door open or closed The door sensor passes on the state of the cover. If the vault is left unopened, it locks again after the time-out period.
Key present or gone The asset presence sensor reports whether the key is inside, so you can see from a distance whether it came back after use.

Models

One key or a whole ring.

Two models, the same sensors and the same way of connecting. The difference is what goes in and how the key is held.

Surface Vault Single Key Model open, with one key in direct entrapment beside a card reader
Single Key Model For one key, held directly in an interchangeable core. The key only comes free once the system grants access.
  • Direct entrapment via interchangeable core
  • 5.9 × 20.7 × 5.4 cm
Surface Vault Key Ring Model open, with a bunch of keys on the ring
Key Ring Model For a bunch of up to fifteen keys. Holding is by cam lock, fob or direct entrapment; a loose access card fits in as well.
  • Cam lock, fob or direct entrapment
  • Ring for up to 15 keys
  • 10.9 × 19.4 × 6.7 cm

Features.

What the vault does, and what it deliberately does not need.

Surface Vault mounted beside a glass door in an office entrance
  • Connects to what you already have Access control, a fire panel, the Security Asset Manager or any device with a relay output that supplies enough power.
  • Door stays closed until released The user presses the door open once the system grants access. If the vault is not opened, it locks again after the time-out period.
  • Door sensor Reports remotely whether the cover is open or closed.
  • Asset presence sensor Reports remotely whether the key is in place or has been taken.
  • LED confirmation Illuminates as soon as the vault is unlocked and access is granted.
  • Mechanical key override With a cylinder, so the key stays reachable if the power fails.
  • No external fasteners Nothing on the outside to tamper with.
  • Surface mount On a wall or another suitable structure.

Where the Surface Vault fits.

Wherever a single key has to hang in a fixed place and be monitored remotely: an emergency key at the entrance, the lift key, the key to a meter cupboard or a plant room. For whole key stocks, look at the Keybox or the Security Asset Manager.

Frequently asked questions about the Surface Vault.

  • For a single key or one key ring that must be available in a fixed place and monitored remotely: an emergency key by a door, a lift key or the key to a plant room.

  • Through your existing access control system, a fire panel, the Security Asset Manager or any other device with a relay output that supplies enough power. The vault has no software of its own. The full explanation is under How it works.

  • There is a mechanical key override with a cylinder, so the key stays reachable without power.

  • Yes. Besides the door sensor there is an asset presence sensor that reports whether the key is in place. Both report their state to your system as a contact closure.

  • Two: the Single Key Model for one key in direct entrapment, and the Key Ring Model for a ring of up to fifteen keys. See Models.
